Rapid Weight Loss Fact Or Fiction?

We’ve all seen the beautiful bodies on the television and on posters – slim, attractive people advertising anything from the newest movie to perfumes. But how did they get those beautiful slim bodies? Well, putting aside the sometimes obvious addition of a little airbrush work, they will probably tell you that it takes time, effort, and more than a little sweat.

But not everyone has the inclination, time, patience or indeed the motivation to look they way they want – these people often look to the easiest alternative – a rapid weight loss program. Unfortunately, these rapid weight loss programs are not always as effective as they are made out to be.

Rapid weight loss programs are often only as good as they last – by that we mean that as soon as you stop doing them, the weight quickly comes back. And to persevere with any rapid weight loss program for an extended period of time can actually seriously damage your health. Rapid weight loss programs are not good for the long-term – for that you need a program that will enable you to eat healthily and lose weight at a reasonable rate – this way you can lose weight and also find it easier to keep the weight off.

Losing weight rapidly is often through the loss of water, not fat. Dehydration is never good under any circumstances. If you do lose a lot of weight through water, your body will simply replace that weight the next time you take a drink of water anyway. Some of the following products have recently emerged that claim to make you lose weight incredibly rapidly:

• The Diet Pill
Water-removal is often how so-called “diet pills” work. We’ve all seen the advertisements for these alleged miracle cures, and some of us have even been tempted to try them. All they do, in fact, is remove some of the water in your body – not the fat. Remember that the human body is capable of losing 2 or 3 pounds a week with a rigorous exercise and diet regime, not 50 pounds overnight!

• The Slimming Soap
This is a recent product that claims to reduce body fat by “emulsification while taking a bath”. It is reputedly made from a unique concoction of seaweed and “secret” Chinese herbs. Whilst it’s true that these soaps do indeed make your skin feel softer, the process of reducing subcutaneous fat by applying any substance to the outer epidermis of skin seems a little far-fetched. Scientists agree – there is precisely zero scientific evidence to show that these soaps do indeed work.

• Magnetic Earrings
Magnetic earrings work by balancing your magnetic field, helping to enhance the healing process and accelerate rapid weight loss. Once again, these assumptions are based on theory rather than fact. To properly align your body magnetically, you would have to travel to the earth’s core, and there is no scientific fact to support their claimed properties. True, they can look nice, but if you’re after aesthetics, then a nice pair of earrings from the jewelers might go down a little better.

The truth of the matter is that if you are looking for a beautiful, slim, toned body you have to work for it. There are no miracle cures, and there are no scientifically proven ways to lose weight overnight – our bodies are simply not capable of it. So the next time you see an advertisement for the next big miracle cure and it seems good to be true – it probably is.
